Presidents Report
October 2010

To the Membership:

It has been my privilege to have served as the President of the Board of Marine Underwriters of San Francisco during the past 12 months. Below is a summary of our activities over the last year:

Committee activities

Education – Sandy Inouye, Chairperson - The Board hosted its biennial seminar on May 6 and 7, 2010. Multiple topics were presented from a very informed and wide array of speakers.  Critiques reflected positive feedback on the speakers and topics covered which included:

State of the Market Pollution COSCO Busan – Oil Spill
Recreation Marine Piracy Going Green/Climate Change
Global Insurance Requirements Making The Truth Persuasive Transportation/Cargo Security & Terminal Operations

Website committee – Cathy Hammer, Chairperson – Information was updated on the website throughout the year as necessary.  The presentations from the Biennial Seminar were posted to the site in June.

2012 Seminar Committee – Julie Vogele, Chairperson.  The committee will begin actively planning the next biennial seminar early in 2011. The site for the 2012 Biennial Seminar has been selected and a contract signed with the Palace Hotel.

Treasurer’s Report - Peter Knowles reported at the August 9, 2010 Directors meeting that the Board was financially sound having $50,269 in its bank accounts and that the biennial seminar of 2010 was a break even result.

I would like to extend my thanks all those who contributed time and service to the Board.  This includes all the Officers and Directors and the many volunteers who assisted during the Seminar and on our committees.

In closing, I would like to encourage all members to get involved in the Boards activities since this is the only way we can continue to put on quality events for the good of everyone in the Marine Industry.

Sincerely,

Cathy Hammer
President
